TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE?

I worked seven days a week caring for Miss Virginia in her home and it was at long last time for vacation. Because she's so fussy, my boss planned ahead and started sending potential *fill ins* to take my place while I was away. There were a few very kind women who came to learn the ropes, and they were all told, "Thank you so much for your time dear, but this just wont possibly work out." When they left, she would explain her reasoning to me. One, "had the sanitation of a hill-billy" another, "just doesn't understand about American cooking" the third, "just wasn't strong enough to handle the job." My boss became very frustrated and decided she'd do the job herself.

She came to the apartment to learn the duties of the job. Miss Virginia loved her, she's very attractive, clean and pleasant. I felt good about leaving Virginia in her care. While I was away, they got along famously. Janine bent over backwards to make Virginia happy. She even did stuff that I refused to do. Janine blew up a picture of Virginia and her husband and gave it to her as a gift. Things were quite different when I got back. Virginia's niece was no longer speaking to her and was removed from the will and as power of attorney.

School was starting the week I got back and Janine was going to cover the days that I needed off for classes. She told me at the last minute that she was going to take an extra day from me because it would be better for her. I thought that was a bit rude, but I said it was fine. One day shortly after, I did some shopping for Virginia and when I went to put the receipt in her check book I noticed that Janine had written herself a few checks. I asked Virginia what they were for and she didn't know. I called Janine and asked her. "What are these checks made out to you for?" She said she "I've been doing a lot of errands for Virginia.". I asked, "where are the receipts?" She said, "they must have been misplaced." She wouldn't or couldn't be more specific when I pressed her on the issue. It was as if I asked her what color the sky was and she told me what color the grass was and how tall the trees were.

Virginia fired her, but I was still under contract with Janine's company, she was the owner. Virginia had to pay the company to continue my services. In the meanwhile, the bank did an investigation and it turned out that Janine forged seven checks. This was in a two week time period. Here was this woman who came in to help out, and she ends up ripping off a 91 year old woman. I had a few heated arguments with Janine, but I was getting nowhere. Virginia's niece began to handle things. By this time, we saw that Janine instigated the fight between Virginia and the niece to make Virginia more vulnerable. The niece ended up getting me out of the contract, the bank ended up taking funds out of Janine's account and Virginia ended up stiffing her on bills owed for services that the company already paid me for. Virginia and the niece have *made up*, but things aren't quite the same.

Hey Brenda,

This is a great story, and works on that level. It has a beginning, middle, and end. Nice.
Overall, though, it could use two things: first, we need more background and context. You kind of need to explain all the relationships, work history, etc, as you are telling the story.
Second, for this to be an essay, we need some kind of point. Why are you telling us this story? What does it signify? What is it an example of? Just reading this, I'm not sure what your theme is. I'll keep reading to see.
